I already loved it before I even went inside!
Sorry this picture is a little blurry! Love the lunch counter ~ reminds me of old days at McCrory's ! (oops, showing my age!)
We decided to sit outside since the weather was fabulous!
As usual, I wanted everything on the menu. From all-day breakfasts to poutiness to dogs and salads, there was something I wanted in every category!
A decision was made to start with a poutine. Crinkle cut fries, classic brown gravy and Wisconsin cheese curds. Yes, cheese curds! ($7.50)
There are several variations of poutine. I will work my way to try all three!
Although the salads looked great, I wanted a hot dog or grilled cheese! The names of the grilled cheese sandwiches are fabulous: teacher's pet - brie, carmelized onion, green apples and butter toasted almonds ($9); Pear-fect - gorgonzola, carmelized onions, pear and applewood bacon ($9.50); blue pig - aged Vermont cheddar, black pepper bacon and blueberry jam ($9.50). Since my friend was having the teacher's pet, I decided to go with one of the 100% Vienna all beef hot dogs.
All grilled cheese sandwiches and hot dogs come with a choice of side. Sides include coleslaw, crinkle cut fries, bacon and bleu mac salad, funnel cake fries, tomato bisque and local beer chili.
Since the decision was made to have a hot dog, it came down to --- which one? There is a note on the bottom of the menu "Add a second dog for just $5" OK then! Let's do that! Again, the names are great! Harry Caray - green relish, tomatoes, sport peppers, chopped onion, celery salt, steamed poppy seed bun ($8); 3 Amigos - chili, shredded cheddar, chopped onions and fritos ($8); Escobar - hard boiled egg, coleslaw, bacon, crinkle cut fries and King Street sauce ($8.50). I decided on the Speedy Gonzalez - coca cola pork carnitas and picked red onion ($8.50) and the Good Fella - a spicy Italian sausage with sautéed onions and green pepper.
And now for the star of the show! The funnel cake fries. I really did not need to know that these things exist. I will not be able to drive down Central Avenue without stopping in for an order of these treats from Heaven! Just thinking about it and posting this picture makes me want to get in my car and go there... NOW!
Back to the furry dogs! Wednesday's feature a Yappy Hour with complimentary fresh baked treats (with your food or beverage order.) Proceeds from Woof Wednesday benefit the Fix is in, a low cost spay/neuter program that is co-sponsored by the New Barker Dog Magazine and Rescue Pink, an animal advocacy organization.
I was very impressed with the cleanliness of the bathrooms. Black and white, spic and span.
