Tastes of Michigan in Largo at Detroit Coney Island

A whole lot of flavor and taste comes out of a tiny building next to the Pinellas Trail at Detroit Coney Island  I've been passing this place several times a week for five months and finally decided to stop and check it out.

There were many things on the menu that I wanted to order, but I finally decided on the Authentic Polish platter (three homemade pan-fried pierogies, homemade sauerkraut and holiday style kielbasa) [$9.95].

 Rob decided on the Stardust Famous Gyro. [$8.50].  The lamb was slow cooked, moist and very flavorful.  This is not your subshop gyro!! I don't think I will ever eat another gyro anywhere else after eating this one!

Tuesday's special is a $2 deal!  You can either get a Coney dog, hot dog, French fries, or loose meat sandwich for TWO bucks!  Rob decided that he had to have some dogs since they were on sale! (We shared one there and the other ended up being a midnight snack!)

I have been to this restaurant when it was an ice cream stand, a produce market, and a myriad of other things and this --by far-- is my favorite!  The interior is very clean and outside is welcoming. 

The restaurant has two locations, one in Clearwater Beach, and this one at 11500 Walsingham Road. Both are run by family members and the same high quality food is served at both locations.

There are daily specials in addition to the regular menu items. On Wednesday, great burger specials; Thursday is combo day; and Friday is the day for walleye and perch.  I am looking forward to Friday so that I can have a walleye sandwich!!

Detroit Coney Island is open on Tuesday through Sunday from 11am. Closing times vary.

Their website tells the story of people thinking that Coney Island hot dogs originated in New York, but the popular food got its start in Michigan. "A Coney dog is a beef hotdog, topped with an all meat, beanless chili, diced white onions, and yellow mustard. A true Coney dog uses made-in-Michigan products."

OH, I almost forgot to mention the Faygo pop.  I had the cream soda [$2] and Rob had a Vernors [$2]. Mmmmmmmm - forgot how much I loved that stuff!

Delicious food at a delicious price at Maggie's on the Bluffs

I normally do not eat someplace more than once before I tell you about it; but I thought about keeping this place a secret!

Maggie Mae's on the Bluffs is simply food paradise.  I have eaten there several times and have never been disappointed, in fact I've loved it more each time.

Located at 2961 West Bay, Maggie's is located in a strip plaza just before you cross the bridge to the beach.

Maggie Mae's is full of friendly servers and it seems a lot of local people. Listening to servers talk to the customers, it sounds like they are longtime friends. This is the kind of place where I like to be! A "Cheers" of sorts for the breakfast and lunch crowd.

Since I have been here more than once, you will get to see a lot more food pictures than I normally post.  I've enjoyed breakfast several times as well as lunch more than once!

Getting pictures where no one is sitting is very hard, as the place is usually full.

Everything that you need is right here at your table! I love the shelf so as not to take up the valuable table space that you need for the food!!

 This was from my most recent visit.  The fish and chips platter with coleslaw.  This was $6.99! I thought I would get a small piece of fish, fries and a soufflé cup of coleslaw. Boy, was I wrong!

 Same day, hubby had the pork tenderloin sandwich.

The salads here are also amazing.  The restaurant is kept very clean.  Bathrooms are also kept tidy.
